DISMANTLE, EMBED

Artisans throughout Arda possess the skill to embed items into staves, helmets, amulets, and rings. However, not every artisan has the ability to embed everything; generally, armourers and weaponsmiths handle metals, while jewelers work with gems. These artisans can also dismantle equipment, with the dismantling process removing and destroying the embedded item.

Examples:

  > embed bar in staff
  > dismantle opal staff

Metallic bands enhance an object's hardness, providing better physical protection, while gems amplify the magical powers of enchanted objects. The specific effect depends on the type of gem embedded.

Certain restrictions exist regarding the type and quantity of items that can be embedded in a given item. Additionally, there are limitations on wearing identical gems in different items simultaneously.

Some gems are classified as major gems, with a limit on how many an item can hold. Certain gems enable the object to function as a usable item, and the item can only hold one such gem.
