taste, eat, sip, and drink are instant commands. quaff is an alias for drink.

When you are hungry or thirsty and do not consume any food or drink, you will find that you tire more quickly and regain hit points and mana more slowly.

Examples:

  > taste mushroom
  > eat loaf
  > sip skin
  > drink cup
  > drink potion

If you drink too much alcohol you will get drunk and it will take a while for you to get sober again.

Some potions can be made by learning herblore and mixing herbs. You can always drink a potion, even if you are otherwise not thirsty.
