MUME Help
ENCRYPTION, SSL, TLS
If you want to use an encrypted channel to play MUME over
(so you don't send passwords or anything else in plain text over the
Internet), you can connect using TLS
(version 1.0 or
newer).
To do this, you need either a TLS-capable client, proxy
your client through MMapper, or run
a TLS tunnel (see help stunnel
).
While not connected over TLS, the info
command will say (not encrypted)
after
Session: <time>
.
TLS is detected automatically, so you can connect to the regular MUME port.
Some clients call their TLS command SSL instead, which is the name of an older, deprecated, standard.
